A Short Introduction to the Site

Hints of dining car flirtations and parlour car cigar smoke haunt the vintage trains waiting forever at the Cranbrook History Centre. Stay in nearby CPR House, once the grand home of the railway's regional superintendent and now a bed and breakfast.

Full Description of the Historical Site or Museum

The National Award Winning Cranbrook History Centre features complete train sets representing various eras of travel including the prestigious million-dollar 1929 ‘TransCanada Limited’. The whole train including dining, sleeping and solarium-lounge cars are on view - much as a deluxe hotel-on-wheels. Nothing comparable to this original vintage set exists anywhere else in the world. Also on display is the 'Soo-Spokane Train Deluxe' of 1907, royal cars, cars-of-state and interpretive cars, totalling 28. Through the use of raised viewing corridors, visitors have easy access to the cars in all types of weather. Guides take visitors on first class tours through the sumptuous interiors of the restored car and buildings to admire the interior design and decoration, and hear about the extensive restoration program.
