What You Can Do

Since 1962, thousands of people have hiked together in the Crown of the Continent with the Montana Wilderness Association. Our Wilderness Walks are led by experienced local outdoor enthusiasts, lifelong hikers, educators, and naturalists. Options for participants may include day hikes, backpacking, evening strolls, midweek escapes, wildflower walks, and trail maintenance projects along the Continental Divide. There is no cost to participate.

From the Bob Marshall Wilderness, to the Whitefish Range, to Jewel Basin, across to the Rocky Mountain Front and up into the high lakes of the Mission Mountains, the options for exploring are endless. Our walks provide an excellent opportunity to see and be a part of the land and trails in a fun, safe way. We want to help you experience adventure on public wildlands in the Crown of Montana. Let's get out and do it together!

The Summer Walks schedule is available April of each year and hikes run through October. We also have Winter Walks that run from January through March. For more information and to register please visit our website to discover a hike near you.

If you prefer to hit the trail independently, please visit our new, statewide hiking guide.

Montana Wilderness Association works with communities to protect Montana's wilderness heritage, quiet beauty and outdoor traditions, now and for future generations.
