Types of Volunteer Work Available

Wilderness Service Projects with the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation are a great way to get outside and give back to The Bob. For many of the projects, no prior experience is necessary. We ask that you come motivated to work, prepared to have fun, and ready to make the project a success. The projects range in length from weekend projects to weeklong backpacking trips.

Appropriate Ages for Volunteer Opportunity

18-81 yrs old and 12-18 with a parent or guardian

Special Skills that May be Required or Helpful

You only need to be in good shape and bring the motivation to work. On the longer backpacking trips and especially the more strenuous rated projects,  you should have some experience carrying a backpack and hiking long distances over rugged terrain. These projects are not a good way to gain this experience and  suggest volunteering for one of the easier rated trips first. There are various trips for all ability levels and you can contact Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation to find an appropriate one for you. The BMWF crew leader will train each volunteer in trails maintenance skills! So no prior experience necessary.
