The festival began in 1977 at the University of Montana and was later moved to the Roxy Theater in downtown Missoula. It is the first and longest running film festival of its kind. A favorite event during the film festival is the WildWalk, a wildlife themed parade, that ends at Caras Park for the WildFest.
