Built in 1981 and 1983, Kandahar Lodge is what you imagine a ski lodge in the mountains should be with its huge river rock wood-burning fireplace, large posts and beams, etched glass and pine walls. There is a European feel to it with stenciling on the hallway walls and large heavy keys that can be kept at the front desk while you go off on your daily adventures. There is also elegance in the antique furniture, the grandfather clock that chimes and in the collection of Russel Chatham artwork. Russel Chatham is a contemporary American landscape artist who spent most of his career living in Livingston, Montana. Kandahar's collection includes several numbered prints of original paintings.
Kandahar Lodge has 50 rooms, some with kitchens. It is open summer and winter for individual travelers. It can be Exclusively Yours for groups needing ten rooms or more in the spring and fall.
it is located ski-in at Whitefish Mountain Resort, 7 miles from Whitefish. It is within walking distance of the chairlift, zip lines, aerial adventure and other summer activities offered by the Resort. It is an hour's drive to the west entrance of Glacier National Park.
Award winning Chef Andy Blanton owns and operates the Cafe Kandahar serving fine evening fare. He also owns the fully licensed Snug Bar. Kandahar Lodge serves a continental breakfast included in the rates.
