Western Outdoor, Montana's largest western retail store, is located on Main Street in Historic Downtown Kalispell. The store carries an impressive inventory of 2,000 hats and 3,000 pairs of boots, not to mention the shirts, chaps, buckles and bling that go along. After outfitting yourself in authentic local western wear, check out the antique mall or pony up to the old fashioned soda fountain at Norm's News next door.
Description of Store or Stores
Western Outdoor is located in the old McIntosh Opera House building at 48 Main Street in Downtown Kalispell. The Opera House was located on the second story from the 1890's through the late 1930's. The Opera House space isn't currently accessible to the public, but the historic character of the main floor where the store is located has been carefully retained. Western Outdoor isn't hard to find - just look for the full-size horse and wagon on the front awning.
Western Outdoor has been owned by the Pirrie Family since 1970. The store outfits local cowboys and cowgirls of all ages and sizes. Try on some moccasins, boots or a hat.
The Pirrie Family has created a unique landmark, combining three businesses located in two adjoining buildings: Western Outdoor on the main floor, an 8,000 square foot antique mall in the basement and Norm’s News, a fully intact old fashioned soda fountain and candy store that dates back to 1938.
